On Tuesday, December 7th, the world lost a magnificent woman. My great grandma, Frances Cesta, affectionately known as Nanny, or G.G., passed away. Coincidentally, she was also one of the biggest Festingo fans on the planet. Above is a picture of Nanny and Los Festingos, taken at her nintieth birthday party extravaganza last July. I'm so glad she got to enjoy such a grand celebration. We were the MCs of the night, providing relaxing music while people ate, and party dance songs later in the evening. Definitely one of the best shows we've ever played. Of course the best song of the night was a brand new original I wrote just for the occassion: Nanny's Lullaby. It was beautiful. She's holding the lyrics in the picture above. My blogspot profile pic shows me presenting her with those very lyrics. Well, over the weekend I got to play the lullaby for her one more time at the funeral service. The comforting lyrics of the song took on a new meaning this time, and it was played with even more spirit than ever before. Here are the lyrics:
Hush now darling, don't you cry
And I'll sing for you Nanny's lullaby
My sweet child, don't worry bout a thing
The sun shines ever brighter when you sing
So little one, dry your tears,
Wipe away the sorrow, wipe away the fears
Watch the troubles float away like butterflies,
Let me see the sunny smiles in your eyes
When times are dark, just look up at the moon
And remember that old familiar tune
Even when the summer sun says goodbye,
We'll always have nanny's lullaby
Never have words been more true.
Rest in Peace my beloved Nanny.
This is beautiful, Sam. What an amazing woman.
